Member Guideline

 

Dive Hard. Laugh Loud. Respect the Ocean.

 

Peckerhead Dive Club is about bringing people together who share a love of diving, the water, adventure, and having a good time. We don't want to bury our members in rules. These guidelines simply reflect the kind of club we want to be and what we ask of everyone who chooses to be part of it.

 

1. Respect Every Member

 

Treat fellow members with respect, whether they've been diving for 30 years or just earned their Open Water certification yesterday.

Experience should be shared, not used to make someone feel inferior. Help newer divers learn, encourage them to ask questions, and remember that every experienced diver was once a beginner.

 

2. No Bullying or Harassment

 

Bullying, intimidation, harassment, personal attacks, or deliberately making another member feel unwelcome have no place in the Peckerhead Dive Club.

We can joke, laugh, tease, and have fun—that's part of who we are—but know where the line is. If the person on the receiving end isn't having fun, it's no longer a joke.

 

3. Leave the Ego on the Dock

 

Different divers have different experience levels, certifications, equipment, training backgrounds, and comfort levels.

Respect those differences. Nobody should ever feel pressured to make a dive, exceed their training, exceed their personal limits, or do something underwater that makes them uncomfortable.

There is no shame in calling a dive.

 

4. Respect the Ocean

 

We're visitors when we enter the water.

Respect marine life and its environment. Don't intentionally damage coral, disturb wildlife, remove living marine life where prohibited, or unnecessarily interfere with the underwater environment.

Take pictures. Make memories. Leave the reef better than you found it.

 

5. See Trash? Lend a Hand

 

If you encounter fishing line, plastic, cans, bottles, or other trash during a recreational dive, we encourage members to remove it when it can be done safely.

Never put yourself, your buddy, or marine life at risk just to retrieve trash. Entanglement hazards, sharp objects, heavy debris, and questionable materials are better reported than handled.

A piece of trash removed safely is one less piece of trash in our ocean.

 

6. Be a Good Dive Buddy

 

Look out for one another—before, during, and after the dive.

Communicate with your buddy, respect the dive plan, pay attention to those around you, and speak up when something doesn't look right.

We're a club, but underwater we're also a team.

 

7. Respect the Dive Professionals

 

When participating in a club trip or event, respect the captains, divemasters, instructors, boat crews, dive shops, and other professionals responsible for getting us into and out of the water safely.

Follow boat and site rules and remember that our behavior reflects not only on ourselves but on the Peckerhead Dive Club as a whole.

 

8. Represent the Club Well

 

When you're wearing Peckerhead Dive Club gear or participating in a club event, you're representing all of us.

Have fun. Be yourself. Just remember that how we treat other divers, dive shops, boat crews, businesses, and the public helps shape the reputation of the entire club.

 

9. Help Build the Club

 

Support fellow members. Welcome new faces. Share your experience. Participate when you can. Recommend great dive sites, shops, charters, training opportunities, and adventures.

You don't have to attend every event or dive every weekend to be part of this club.

Show up when you can, contribute how you can, and help make the club better than you found it.

 

10. Remember Why We're Here

 

We're here because we love diving.

Have fun. Make friends. Tell dive stories that get slightly better every time they're told. Look out for one another and help protect the places we're fortunate enough to dive.
